Fire's annual Christmas safety message

Post by ARC Fireangel on 9/12/2011, 15:38

It's that time again when I post to you all about Christmas Safety, yeah, yeah I know what your thinking "he we go, another one of those health and Safety Bullcrap" but please watch these videos and then think about it:

Year in year out the Fire Service have more calls this time of year due to the amount of electrical items, candles and people being Merry and forgetting to switch things off.

Fairy lights and Christmas tree lights don't get used very often, so you should make sure they are in good working order before using them:

1. Check that lights aren't damaged or broken and look out for loose or worn wires

2. Check that the fuse in the plug is the right size - the lights' packaging should tell you the maximum size of fuse you should use

3. Don't overload sockets

4. Replace any bulbs that blow

5. Switch the lights off when you go to bed or leave the house

6. Don't let the bulbs touch anything that can burn easily, like paper or fabrics and other Christmas tree decorations

Candles and night lights are often used in celebrations for Christmas, Diwali and other festivals.

Make sure you don't put candles in, or by, a Christmas tree, plants, flowers or other foliage.

You should also take care to keep ribbons, festive decorations made of tissue paper or cardboard, and greetings cards away from heaters, lights, fireplaces and candles.

I hope you or one of your loved ones do not become another statistic of people lost to Fire.

Thankyou for reading this and Hope you and your Family have a Safe and Wonderful Christmas and New year Very Happy

Cheers Fire, I'll throw an eye over the tree when I get home and double check the lot.
