Motorbikes

Post by masher77 on 9/10/2012, 16:21

Anyone ride one on here,i've just passed my CBT and am now doing my direct access so i can buy and jump on one of these bad boys

I was going to go for the Honda CBR 600,but have now plumped for the Suzuki Gsxr 600 after having a ride on a mates and falling in love with it.

Re: Motorbikes

Post by Guest on 9/10/2012, 16:27

Ive ridden bikes for 10 years now and they are great.

But be very careful and seriously consider why you want such a bike as your first.

I would look to go for something like a SV650s. Plenty fast and a wonderful bike.

Its a great hobby but please take your time to learn to ride properly (which doesnt happen over night). I have more than a few friends and aquantances die on their bikes, both from crashes with cars and from single bike acidents (as in they just got it wrong)

sorry if this is a bit of a negitive post and im telling you to suck eggs but its with the best intentions.

biking is wonderful and nothing beats it :) welcome to the club! Very Happy

been wanting to do my CBT for ages now .. really would love a small bike just to ride to work and back in the summer . used to ride bikes all the time when i lived in SA , since ive been living here i haven't ridden once Sad

yea like sniper says if you havent ridden bigger bikes often then start with something smaller .

one thing you learn very quickly when riding bikes is show it some respect or you will hurt yourself

@ Indy Nice ride mate
@Sniper and Pysman i hear you both but i know if i went and got smaller after 2 months i would want an upgrade so thats why i've gone for the Gixxer 600,true what your saying though and i will be taking my time on it i have a mate in a wheelchair who fecked up on a R1 so i know if you feck up on a bike it can be a far worse outcome then when you feck up in a car......

One thing i have noticed is that im alot more aware of stuff driving now i've racked up a few hours on the bikes and definately use my mirrors a whole lot more now 1

Agreed Psy. I've been riding a motorbike since I was 16 and it definitely improves your hazard awareness skills !! I'd really love to get the ole girl out on the road again, it's been 5 years since she's seen the light of day Sad

I use to have a 600 Diversion too that I used to commute to work on, for two years solid I used her up and down the motorway from Luton to watford, only problem was in the winter because I worked nights, finishing at 3am in the morning and riding home it use to get bloody cold. Many a time I got home and couldn't feel my fingers or feet !!! Laughing

And where you ride a bike makes a huge difference. I learnt to ride living in London where it literally is like fighting for your life everytime you go for a ride.
Compared to Surrey and now Swansea, the levels of awareness change so much in other road users.

Personally I would not be getting a SS bike as my first bike - I dont even see the point of getting one now.

I have the SV650S with sorted suspension and I can eat noobs on fully sorted SS bikes around the black mountains and twisties and get to 70mph in 4 seconds.

But the great thing is becuase its a Vtwin is has that low torque so you dont need to rev it hard to get to the power which in turn lets your learn how to use the bike better.

Re: Motorbikes

Post by SamSevenFive on 10/10/2012, 17:03

I passed my test a few months back but have yet to upgrade from my 2-stroke DT125 - I love my bike, am still getting loads of fun out of it and have no desire to sell it. I've just taxed, mot'd and insured it for less than £150 - can't go wrong with that! I go trail riding around Salisbury Plain with a friend of mine, it's great fun. We go up there in all weather - even snow and ice haha.

I want a Triumph Street Triple AND a dedicated off roader like maybe a KTM or a Husky. Paul and I have been considering entering some amateur enduro events next year.

Good luck with your biking masher - if you've a love of biking, the test is no big deal, just a wonderful couple of days learning about and riding bikes. I really enjoyed my training weekend. Passing the test at the end is a bonus, learning how to be a proficient rider is what it's all about.

Either of the 600's you mentioned would make great first 'real' bikes - especially one of the older CBR's. Get the bike that you want, not the one you think you should get. (within reason hahah)

Here are some pics and a videos of my biking exploits.

Sorry about the dodgy YouTube music - I used it to cover up the sound of the gale force wind the camera picked up. This vid was taken before I passed my test - I've come a long way both on and off road since then Very Happy

So did I Psy, I had a DT50 with an Autisa 65cc big bore kit on it, then I swapped out the engine for a DT80 engine. Then I bought a G' reg 1989 DT125 but sadly in 1992 when I was 18 Norwich Union took bike insurance through the roof and I couldn't afford to insure it, so she sat in the garage for a couple of years until my mate got me back into biking and I part ex her for my 600 Diversion !!!

Re: Motorbikes

Biking can be a dangerous business for sure.

A lot of the trouble is attitude. Many bikers have the attitude that all car drivers are idiots and everything is there fault. Well, sometimes that may be the case - but as a biker you should take that as a given fact and ride defensively. It's NOT good practice to cast blame at car drivers all the time - if you have a near miss the chances are it's your fault as you didn't think ahead and predict the situation.

There is a 'system of motorcycle control' advocated by the police that covers all this. It's in the 'The Police Rider's Handbook to Better Motorcycling' - if you're a biker do yourself a big favour and read that book.

I've had Bikes my whole life up until last Summer. I started out when I was 5 and was hooked from the word go...

My Wife bullied me into selling my last bike as I tend to go balls out everytime I get on one and as we all know, when you take things to your limit al the time it's just a numbers game...

here are my last 2 bikes,

I basically gave it away to an old friend...

That pic isn't my actual bike, but mine was nicer to be honest. Same colour etc, but mine was a mint condition 2000 W. I gave him 2 spare exhausts (both racing pipes). I gave him a spare grey tank, a seat, Moto X Mudguards, Handlebars, and mint condition White Power Moto X Front Forks, and Mono Shock, Moto X Wheels and Tyres, and some other bits and bobs.

Would you believe that I sold him the lot for £600?

LOL, Yeah I know I know, but manure happens right?

The VFR turned out to be a bit of a dog and I returned it today for a refund. Not to be denied I promptly went to a different shop and bought this 1996 CBR600F3. It only has 15k on the clock and is in awesome condition. It still has the original exhaust on and it looks like new. I am extremely happy with this purchase cheers cheers cheers cheers
Gotta wait for it to be serviced and MOT'd though - booooo!
